Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule an appointment? When are you available?
You can schedule an appointment by calling or emailing me, and I will respond as soon as possible. You can also use the appointment request form on the Contact page to select available times. Please note that the calendar may not show all openings—other times can be requested. I am available Monday through Saturday, typically offering sessions during regular working hours, including mornings and late afternoons.
Do you offer online sessions? Where is your office located and is there parking?
Yes, I offer both in-person and online therapy sessions. Virtual therapy sessions are conducted through a secure telehealth platform hosted by SimplePractice. For online sessions you will need access to a private space, a device with a camera and microphone, and a secure internet connection. For in-person sessions, my office is located at Downtown Therapy Associates, 401 Holmes Ave NE, Suite E, Huntsville, AL 35801, on the second floor. There is free parking available for clients.
Do you accept insurance? What are your session rates? Do you offer sliding scale or payment options?
I am not able to accept insurance directly, but I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. My 50-minute individual therapy sessions are $90 ($100 for Saturday sessions). Sliding scale may be available for clients who need more affordable care. I accept American Express, Cash, Check, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa. Credit card payments are processed online and will be charged immediately following a session.
What is a superbill and how do I submit it to insurance?
A superbill is an itemized receipt of your therapy sessions that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. It includes details like the service provided, session date, and relevant billing codes. After your session, I can provide a superbill, and you would then submit it directly to your insurance provider. Please check with your insurance company beforehand to understand your out-of-network mental health benefits. This information can be obtained by calling the number on the back of your card and asking, "what percentage reimbursement of an appointment do I receive for an out of network mental health provider?" Most clients receive between 50-65% of session fee.
Can I reach out for a consult before starting? What should I expect in my first session?
Yes! I offer a free 15-minute consultation to answer any questions or discuss concerns about starting therapy. During your first full session, we’ll get to know each other, review your goals, and begin exploring the challenges you’re facing. The first session is an opportunity to clarify expectations, understand your concerns, and determine the best approach for your growth and well-being.
How long does therapy usually last?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the issues you’re working on, and your pace of progress. Some clients find relief or clarity in a shorter time frame, while others benefit from longer-term work. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we’ll regularly review your progress and adjust the approach as needed to support your mental health.
Do you work with teens, adults, LGBTQ clients, or clients from different faiths? What are your focus areas? What is your counseling approach or style?
Yes, I work with teens and adults from all backgrounds, identities, and belief systems, providing a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore challenges. My specialties include social anxiety, performance anxiety, perfectionism, religious trauma and spiritual distress, and academic, career, or life-related burnout. I also work with a wide variety of clients navigating depression, stress, relationship challenges, and major life transitions.
My counseling style is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s needs. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) to help you better understand yourself, navigate difficult emotions, and develop practical strategies for managing challenges.
How is my privacy protected during therapy? What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Your privacy is a top priority. All sessions, whether in-person or online, are confidential and comply with HIPAA regulations. Online sessions are conducted through a secure telehealth platform, and information shared in therapy is protected to the fullest extent allowed by law.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide as much notice as possible. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a fee: 50% of the session rate for the first occurrence, and the full session fee for a second occurrence. This policy helps ensure that appointment times remain available for clients who need them.
